Welcome to the 2025 ENAR Spring Meeting!! Our meeting theme is “ENAR is Interdisciplinary,” reflecting the interplay between the biological and quantitative sciences to solve problems that are important for the public good. At its best, our profession fosters deep collaboration to identify important problems, mathematical and statistical rigor in solving these problems in computationally efficient ways, and the translation of resulting methodologies for scientific researchers and policy stakeholders. Biostatisticians and other scientists working in academics, government, and industry need to interact to most effectively fulfill this interdisciplinary mission. Fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion is an essential component in bringing new perspectives on the mission.

The 2025 Presidential Invited Speaker will be Richard Cook, University Professor, Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo. Professor Cook exemplifies the pinnacle of biostatistics interdisplinary work. He will speak on “Interdisciplinary collaboration, statistical leadership, and methodological research.”  This will clearly be a highlight of the spring meeting.

The four-day meeting, March 23-26, 2025, showcases diverse opportunities for professional development and networking through tutorials, roundtables, contributed and invited sessions, the Fostering Diversity in Biostatistics Workshop, the meeting’s career placement services, breaks, and mixers. We are working hard to put together a program attractive to a broad range of biostatisticians and quantitative scientists at various stages in their career from government, industry, academia and beyond. The scientific and educational programs provide opportunities to learn about new areas and strengthen foundations in statistical methods, applications, and software as well as to discuss topics important for professional development.

ENAR is committed to cultivating a culture of inclusion, professionalism, and civil discourse, which facilitates an environment where ideas are exchanged openly and freely with mutual respect and trust. ENAR has adopted a Meeting Conduct Policy that outlines expectations for all attendees and participants. All attendees must agree to abide by the policy when registering.

I am grateful to each person who supported the planning and implementation of this spring meeting, including the volunteers who serve on the planning, program, and educational advisory committees; the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) committee; the Council of Emerging and New Statisticians (CENS); the Social Media Committee; Student Paper Award Committee; Fostering Diversity in Biostatistics Workshop committee; poster judges; students who help run the short courses; webinar committee; RAB; RECOM; and our partners at Virtual, Inc. who manage meeting logistics.

It is a great honor to be the ENAR President for 2025. ENAR has been my professional home from my graduate school days in the 1980’s through my professional career at the National Institutes of Health. In those years, biostatistics has seen many exciting changes, with data playing an increasingly important role in science and society. With that comes challenges, including identifying the role of ENAR and biostatistics more generally within the wide range of quantitative disciplines that have emerged. We need to embrace these other disciplines while recognizing key attributes that make us special, including a strong emphasis on rigorous design and methodology, and an interdisciplinary perspective.
